About AQA AS Level
AQA AS Level is a one-year qualification with its own exams and its own grade. It is graded A to E, and there is no A* at AS. AQA states the AS is designed to be taken over one or two years, with all assessments at the end. We tutor 13 AQA AS subjects.
The weighting is the simplest part of AQA AS. Every subject we tutor is two components, and every component is worth 50% of the qualification. Eleven of the thirteen are two papers of 1 hour 30 minutes. The mark totals differ much more: they run from 50 marks a component in English Literature and History to 80 in Maths, Chemistry, Geography and Business.
Two subjects step outside that shape. AQA AS Business sets two papers of 1 hour 45 minutes. AQA AS Computer Science does something no other AS subject does: Paper 1 is an on-screen exam of 1 hour 45 minutes, and AQA hands students preliminary material, a skeleton program and test data before they sit it. We teach the paper in front of your child, not a generic AS syllabus.
