About AQA AS Level History
AQA AS Level History is code 7041, with a DfE discount code of 4010 for post-16 and DB for Key Stage 4, and an accreditation number of 601/4974/7. It is a standalone AS specification. Both components last 1 hour 30 minutes, carry 50 marks and are worth 50% of the AS, scaled at one, giving a total scaled mark of 100. The AS is graded on a five point scale of A, B, C, D and E.
The two components are a breadth study and a depth study. The breadth study covers significant historical developments over a period of around 50 years and the historical interpretations associated with them. The depth study covers a major historical change or development in depth, with primary source evidence. Both components have the same question pattern: Section A is one compulsory question worth 25 marks, and Section B is one question chosen from two, also worth 25 marks.
What those compulsory questions examine is fixed by the objectives. AO2, which is analysing and evaluating source material primary or contemporary to the period, is worth 25% overall and is examined only in the depth study, where it is 25 of the 50 marks. AO3, which is analysing and evaluating different ways the past has been interpreted, is worth 25% overall and is examined only in the breadth study, where it is 25 of the 50 marks. So each component can award zero for the other component's objective.
The combination rules are printed and they constrain planning. Students must study a British history option for either Component 1 or Component 2, combined with a non-British option in the other, and any British option may be paired with any non-British option. The entry code records both choices: it begins 7041, then a letter for the component 1 option and a letter for the component 2 option. If you want to see how AS Level History compares across boards, that page sets them side by side.

AQA AS Level History: The Board We Cover
AQA is the board this page covers. Every fact here comes from AQA's own 7041 specification.
AQA
AQA's AS Level History is code 7041 with two option letters. Both components last 1 hour 30 minutes and carry 50 marks. The breadth study examines interpretations only and the depth study examines sources only, so each objective scores zero on one paper.
How Centaurus Helps AQA AS Level History Students Excel
Interpretations on the Breadth Paper
AO3 is 25 marks on the breadth study and zero on the depth study, so interpretation skills are trained for the component that actually rewards them.
Sources on the Depth Paper
AO2 is 25 marks on the depth study and zero on the breadth study, so source analysis is practised against the right paper rather than spread across both.
The Combination Rule Checked
One British option and one non-British option, sitting on different components, is confirmed before entry rather than discovered as a prohibited combination.
Entry Code Verified
The entry code carries both option letters after 7041, so the two topics studied are confirmed against the code AQA expects.
Two Question Shapes
Section A is a compulsory 25 mark question and Section B is one from two, so both the compulsory source or interpretation question and the choice question are practised.
