About AQA AS Level Business
AQA AS Level Business is code 7137, with a DfE discount code of 3210 and an accreditation number of 610/6450/6. It is a new specification, taught from September 2026 with AS exams from 2027 onwards, and it is linear. There are two papers, both 1 hour 45 minutes long and both carrying 80 marks, worth 50% of the AS each. That is fifteen minutes longer than the usual AS paper, and it is worth knowing before timing practice papers from another board.
Neither paper offers a choice. AQA states that each paper contains two case studies, and that each case study will be followed by six compulsory questions worth 40 marks in total. So there are twelve compulsory questions per paper on two unseen case studies, with no optional question and no choice of context. That means revision has to cover the whole unit rather than the parts a student prefers, and the skill being tested is reading an unfamiliar case study quickly.
The two units are examined unevenly. Paper 1 assesses the AS content in Unit 3.1, which is business and objectives, forms of business and stakeholders, marketing management and financial management. Paper 2 assesses Unit 3.2, which is people management and operations management, with links to Unit 3.1. AQA is explicit that Paper 1 is standalone, that Paper 2 focuses on Unit 3.2 and sections 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 from Unit 3.1, and that question endpoints may require knowledge and skills from across Unit 3.1 including calculations. So Unit 3.1 is examined twice.
Assessment of extended response has its own rules. AQA states that 15-mark questions in both AS and A-level papers assess learners ability to analyse, evaluate and make judgements, and that the assessment materials are designed to allow a sustained, coherent line of reasoning that is relevant, substantiated and logically structured. AQA also names AS Paper 2 as the synoptic paper, where students draw together knowledge from across the full course of study. If you want to see how AS Level Business compares across boards, that page sets them side by side.
Who AQA AS Level Business Is For
This course suits students entering AQA AS Level Business 7137 from 2027 who need the whole of Unit 3.1 ready for both papers, the case study format practised, and the 15-mark judgement questions taken seriously.
- Students sitting AQA AS Level Business 7137 from 2027 onwards
- Students working from past papers written for an earlier specification without realising the structure has changed
- Students who stop revising Unit 3.1 after Paper 1, and lose marks on Paper 2
- Students who write descriptions rather than the sustained reasoning the 15-mark questions reward
- Private candidates based in the UK, since the specification is open to them

AQA AS Level Business: The Board We Cover
AQA is the board this page covers. Every fact here comes from AQA's own 7137 specification.
AQA
AQA's AS Level Business is code 7137, a new specification with AS exams from 2027. Both papers last 1 hour 45 minutes and carry 80 marks, and every question is compulsory: two case studies each followed by six compulsory questions. Unit 3.1 is examined on both papers.
How Centaurus Helps AQA AS Level Business Students Excel
No Choice, So Full Coverage
Every question is compulsory on both papers, so the whole of Unit 3.1 and Unit 3.2 is covered rather than the topics a student happens to prefer.
Unit 3.1 Revised Twice
Paper 2 focuses on Unit 3.2 but includes sections 3.1.1 and 3.1.2, and question endpoints can draw on all of Unit 3.1, so it stays live all year.
Case Study Technique
Two unseen case studies per paper with six compulsory questions each, so students practise reading a case quickly and applying theory to it.
15 Mark Judgement Questions
AQA states that 15-mark questions assess analysis, evaluation and judgement, so extended answers are built as sustained arguments rather than lists of points.
Synoptic Work on Paper 2
AQA names AS Paper 2 as the synoptic paper, so lessons deliberately connect Unit 3.2 content back to Unit 3.1 where the marks are.
24/7 Progress Reporting
Families get access to the Centaurus Academy LMS, with attendance, progress and lesson notes available to parents, students and teachers at any time.
