About AQA A Level Maths
AQA A Level Maths is code 7357, with an accreditation number of 603/1164/2. It is linear, so all three papers are sat at the end of the course. Each paper lasts 2 hours and carries 100 marks, and all three are scaled at one, which gives a total scaled mark of 300. The three papers are equal in weight, and the A Level is graded on a six point scale of A star, A, B, C, D and E, so unlike the AS there is a top grade to aim for.
The structure is not three separate subjects. Paper 1 assesses the pure sections A to I, which are proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and numerical methods. Paper 2 assesses any content from Paper 1 plus vectors and the four mechanics sections. Paper 3 assesses any content from Paper 1 plus the five statistics sections. Those two opening words matter, because they appear on both papers.
So the pure core can be asked three times. Proof, algebra, coordinate geometry, sequences, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and numerical methods are examinable on every paper. Only Paper 1 is pure by itself. Paper 2 adds J, P, Q, R and S, and Paper 3 adds K, L, M, N and O. In total there are nineteen lettered sections running from A to S with no letter skipped, plus the three overarching themes OT1, OT2 and OT3.
Two requirements are printed rather than implied. AQA states that students must be able to recall the formulae and identities in Appendix B without them being provided, and that a calculator is required for use in all assessments. It also requires students to become familiar with one or more specific large data sets before the final assessment, with the set itself published on AQA's website rather than in the specification.
