About AQA A Level Business
AQA A Level Business is code 7138, with a DfE discount code of 3210 and an accreditation number of 610/6449/X. It is a new specification, taught from September 2026 with A Level exams from 2028 onwards, and it is linear. There are three papers, all 2 hours long and all carrying 90 marks, each worth 33.3% of the A-level. The A Level is graded on a six point scale of A star, A, B, C, D and E.
All three papers are built the same way. Each contains two case studies, and each case study is followed by five compulsory questions worth 45 marks in total. So there are ten compulsory questions per paper, all based on unseen case studies, and there is no choice of question anywhere in the qualification. A student cannot plan around a topic, because the case study decides the content.
The papers map to the three units, and they get progressively cumulative. Paper 1 assesses Unit 3.1. Paper 2 assesses Unit 3.2 with links to Unit 3.1. Paper 3 assesses Unit 3.3 with links to Unit 3.1 and Unit 3.2. So Unit 3.1 can appear on all three papers, Unit 3.2 on two, and Unit 3.3 on one. Letting early content go after Paper 1 costs marks on both of the later papers.
Quantitative skills are specified precisely. Papers 1 and 2 each include two quantitative questions, in 9-mark or 15-mark formats, and Paper 3 has a single quantitative question worth either 9 or 15-marks. AQA states that learners are expected to perform calculations and apply the results in their analysis and evaluation, and that quantitative skills are assessed across all four objectives.
