About A Level Business Studies
A Level Business Studies is the qualification students sit in their final year of school. It suits anyone heading for business, management, marketing, finance or entrepreneurship. It runs over two years: Year 12 first, then Year 13, when the exams happen. Many schools call that second year A2, and others call it Grade 12. You can see how A Level is structured across both years.
The step up from GCSE is the depth of the thinking. At A Level, students stop describing what a business does and start judging what it should do next. Answers need a business model or theory, applied to the case in front of them, then a recommendation with reasons. Strong students also weigh up the risks of their own advice.
Every lesson starts from the specification your child's school follows, so study time goes where it counts. We mark real past papers and show exactly where the marks went, and we pull extra practice from our past paper library. Parents can follow progress in the Centaurus Academy LMS all through Year 13.
Who A Level Business Studies Is For
This course suits Year 13 students who want a business studies grade they can rely on.

A Level Business Studies Exam Boards We Cover
Business Studies A Levels come in two families. AQA and Edexcel are UK boards, where the exams come at the end of the two years. Cambridge International, OxfordAQA and Edexcel International follow their own international syllabuses, with exams in more series. Two of them are changing: AQA and OxfordAQA have both revised Business. We teach the right version for your child's exam year.
Edexcel
Two routes sit under this board. UK students sit three papers of two hours at the end of the two years, 100 marks each, covering four themes. Paper 3 is built around a context document that Edexcel releases the November before. International A Level students sit four units of 80 marks across exam series instead.
AQA
AQA is part way through a change. Students sitting exams in June 2027 take the outgoing specification: three two-hour papers of 100 marks. The new specification started teaching in September 2026, with first A Level exams in 2028. Its papers are 90 marks each and built on two case studies. Tell us your child's exam year and we will teach to it.
Cambridge
Four papers, two at AS and two at A Level. Papers 1 and 2 are the AS papers, covering topics 1.1 to 5.5. Papers 3 and 4 complete the A Level and add strategy and decision-making. Exams run in June and November, and the syllabus can be taken as AS only, staged, or all in one series.
OxfordAQA
OxfordAQA has fully revised this qualification. The revised version, 9725, has its first AS exams in May and June 2027 and its first A2 exams in May and June 2028. It is modular: four units, with the International AS worth 40% of the grade and the A2 the other 60%. Students mid-course on the earlier version are taught to that one instead.
