About AQA A Level Accounting
AQA A Level Accounting is code 7127, with a QAN of 603/0920/9, written for teaching from September 2017 and for A Level exams from 2019 onwards. It is linear and entirely examined. Paper 1 is Financial accounting and Paper 2 is Accounting for analysis and decision-making, and they are identical in length, marks and weight: each is a written exam of 3 hours, each carries 120 marks, and each is worth 50% of the A-level. The A Level is graded on a six-point scale of A star, A, B, C, D and E.
The two papers are also identical in structure. Each has three compulsory sections: Section A of 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions worth 30 marks, Section B of two structured questions each worth 20 marks for 40 marks, and Section C of two extended answer questions each worth 25 marks for 50 marks. That adds to 120 marks on both papers, so neither gives a student a different shape of task to hide behind.
What separates the papers is the content coverage. Paper 1 assesses sections 1 to 8 and 14 to 18 of the subject content. Paper 2 assesses sections 1 to 3, 8 to 13, and 17 to 18. Sections 1, 2, 3, 8, 17 and 18 therefore appear on both papers, so those areas are examined twice while the rest are examined once.
The subject itself is described by AQA as emphasising both financial accounting and the recording of past events, and management accounting as a means of planning and decision making. AQA is explicit that these are not totally distinct areas and that there is an interrelationship between them, and it also names ethical behaviour as something students must understand.
The objective table is unusual in two ways. It uses decimals, printing AO1 at 11.5 to 13.5 and AO3 at 19.5 to 21.5 on each paper. And it puts AO3, analysing and evaluating accounting data to present information, make judgements and draw conclusions, first at 40 to 42% overall, with AO2 at 33 to 35% and AO1 last at 24 to 26%. The paper therefore rewards judgement and conclusion more than recall. A minimum of 20% of the overall A-level marks is attributed to the assessment of quantitative skills. AQA A Level Accounting: The Board We Cover
AQA is the board this page covers. Every fact here comes from AQA's own 7127 specification.
AQA
AQA's A Level Accounting is code 7127, with two identical 3 hour papers of 120 marks at 50% each. AO3 carries 40 to 42% of the marks and AO1 only 24 to 26%, and there is no coursework.
How Centaurus Helps AQA A Level Accounting Students Excel
Two Identical Papers Together
Both are 3 hours, 120 marks and the same three sections, so nothing is left until the second paper on the assumption it is easier.
Judgement Practised, Not Assumed
AO3 is 40 to 42% overall, so conclusions, judgements and reports are drilled alongside the calculations that support them.
The Overlap Identified
Sections 1, 2, 3, 8, 17 and 18 sit on both papers, so that content is taught once and examined twice, and revision time follows the same logic.
Section C Treated as Half a Paper
Two extended answer questions of 25 marks carry 50 of the 120 marks, so written analysis gets its own preparation.
Quantitative Skills Covered
A minimum of 20% of the marks assess quantitative skills, so those questions are practised to the same standard as the written ones.
24/7 Progress Reporting
