About AQA GCSE Geography
AQA GCSE Geography is code 8035, and it has three papers rather than the usual two. All three last 1 hour 30 minutes, but they are not equally weighted. Paper 1 is Living with the physical environment and is worth 35%. Paper 2 is Challenges in the human environment and is worth 35%. Paper 3 is Geographical applications and is worth 30%. The mark totals follow the weighting: 88 marks on each of the first two papers and 76 on the third, all scaled at one, giving a total scaled mark of 252. It is entered on a single code, so the qualification is untiered.
Fieldwork is compulsory and it carries marks, which is the thing most families do not realise. AQA states that students need to undertake two geographical enquiries, each including the use of primary data collected as part of a fieldwork exercise, and it builds the marks into the assessment objectives themselves: AO3 is 35% including 10% applied to fieldwork contexts, and AO4 is 25% including 5% used to respond to fieldwork data and contexts. So fieldwork is not a trip to be squeezed in at the end. It is a stated slice of the grade.
For a private candidate that requirement has teeth. AQA states that fieldwork must take place outside school grounds on two separate occasions, and that the head of the AQA-approved school or college the candidate is entering with must sign a written statement confirming the fieldwork has been completed. That can be satisfied through evidence and questioning, or by a teacher supervising the activity. Either way, it is two outdoor sessions and a signature, and it needs arranging before the course starts rather than after.
Paper 3 is different in kind from the other two. It draws on issue evaluation, fieldwork and geographical skills, and AQA's objective table shows it carries no AO1 at all, while AO3 rises from 8.5 on Papers 1 and 2 to 18 on Paper 3. So the final paper rewards applying, interpreting, evaluating and deciding rather than knowing places. It also arrives with a pre-release resources booklet made available twelve weeks before the exam, which is three months of usable preparation time for families who know it exists. If you want to see how GCSE Geography compares across boards, the subject page sets them side by side.

AQA GCSE Geography: The Board We Cover
AQA is the board this page covers. Every fact here comes from AQA's own 8035 specification.
AQA
AQA's GCSE Geography is code 8035, untiered, with three papers of 1 hour 30 minutes each, weighted 35, 35 and 30. Paper 3 carries no knowledge objective at all and arrives with a pre-release booklet twelve weeks early. Two fieldwork enquiries are compulsory and carry stated marks inside the assessment objectives.
How Centaurus Helps AQA GCSE Geography Students Excel
Fieldwork Planned Early
Two enquiries are compulsory and worth stated marks inside AO3 and AO4, so they are planned at the start of the course rather than squeezed in before the exams.
Paper 3 Treated as a Different Exam
Paper 3 carries no knowledge objective and triples the analysis weighting, so it is prepared as an application and decision paper rather than a third content paper.
The Pre-Release Booklet Used Properly
The booklet arrives twelve weeks before Paper 3, so the issue evaluation work starts as soon as it is released instead of in the final fortnight.
Section C Choices Taught Per Paper
Paper 1 lets students choose any two of three questions while Paper 2 makes one question compulsory, so the question plan differs by paper.
SPaG Marked Every Week
Spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology carry 3 marks on Papers 1 and 2 and 6 on Paper 3, so written accuracy is marked regularly.
24/7 Progress Reporting
Families get access to the Centaurus Academy LMS, with attendance, progress and lesson notes available to parents, students and teachers at any time.
