About O Level Additional Mathematics
O Level Additional Mathematics 4037 is a Cambridge International qualification, usually taken at the end of Year 11 and designed for students aged 14 to 16. It is not a replacement for Maths. It is a second maths qualification, taken in addition to it, and it goes further: calculus, logarithmic and exponential functions, series, permutations and combinations, circular measure, vectors in two dimensions, and the coordinate geometry of the circle.
Cambridge is explicit that the ground is already covered. Knowledge of the subject content of Cambridge O Level or IGCSE Mathematics is assumed, and that includes indices and surds. Candidates can take this syllabus alongside other Cambridge International syllabuses in a single exam series, so Additional Mathematics and Mathematics can be sat together. There is one stated exception, and it is worth knowing before you plan entries: Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606) cannot be combined with it.
There are no tiers. Every candidate takes the same two papers, and both are compulsory. Paper 1 is a non-calculator paper and Paper 2 requires a scientific calculator, and each is 2 hours and worth 80 marks. Both are structured and unstructured questions covering any part of the content, and candidates must show all necessary working. A list of formulas is provided on page 2 of the examination papers, so some of the heavier results do not have to be memorised. There is one deliberate exception, and it catches people out: no formulas are given for the Calculus section, so everything in that topic has to be learned. We work from real past papers, and you can see how our O Level tutoring works.

Cambridge International is the only board offering Cambridge O Level Additional Mathematics. We teach 4037 in full, including the non-calculator paper.
Cambridge
Cambridge O Level Additional Mathematics 4037 is untiered. All candidates take two written papers and are eligible for grades A* to E, with A* the highest and E the lowest. Use of a calculator is not allowed for Paper 1, and a scientific calculator is required for Paper 2. Both papers are compulsory, both use structured and unstructured questions, and both draw on any part of the content. Candidates answer all questions and must show all necessary working. A List of formulas is provided on page 2 of the examination papers for candidates to refer to during the examinations, covering results including the quadratic equation formula, the binomial theorem, arithmetic and geometric series, the sine rule, the cosine rule, the area of a non-right-angled triangle, the equation of a circle, and the surface area and volume of a sphere, a cone and a pyramid. No formulas are given for the Calculus section. Knowledge of the subject content of Cambridge O Level or IGCSE Mathematics is assumed, including the use of indices and surds, and candidates can take this syllabus alongside other Cambridge International syllabuses in a single exam series, with one stated exception: Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606) cannot be combined with it. Both papers are externally set and marked by Cambridge, and there is no coursework. The syllabus sets about 130 guided learning hours. Exams are available in the June and November series, and the syllabus is available to centres in administrative zones 3, 4 and 5.
How Centaurus Helps O Level Additional Mathematics Students Excel
Calculus Without a Safety Net
It is the one section of the content with no formulas in the examination list. We teach it to be recalled, not looked up.
Non-Calculator Confidence
Paper 1 bans calculators and Cambridge introduced it deliberately. We build the fluency to work without one.
Paper 2 Technique
A scientific calculator is expected for Paper 2, and method marks are awarded. We teach calculator use that still shows the working.
Beyond the Standard Course
Calculus, series, vectors and the coordinate geometry of the circle do not appear on the Maths syllabus. We teach them as new mathematics, not revision.
Classes in Your Local Time
Live group sessions scheduled around your time zone, so no late nights or early mornings just to make a class.
24/7 Progress Reporting
Families get access to the Centaurus Academy LMS, with attendance, progress and lesson notes available to parents, students and teachers at any time.
