About O Level Accounting
O Level Accounting 7707 is a Cambridge International qualification, usually taken at the end of Year 11 and designed for students aged 14 to 16. It runs across seven themes: the fundamentals of accounting; sources and recording of data; verification of accounting records; accounting procedures; preparation of financial statements; analysis and interpretation; and accounting concepts and modern practice.
There are no tiers, so every candidate takes the same two papers, and the split is unusual. Paper 1 is multiple choice and carries 30% of the qualification: 40 questions in 1 hour 30 minutes, worth 40 marks, with some questions requiring calculations. Paper 2 carries the other 70% and is a structured written paper of 1 hour 45 minutes and 100 marks. Its structure is simple and unforgiving in equal measure: five compulsory questions, each worth 20 marks, so no question can be quietly sacrificed.
The tasks in Paper 2 are practical rather than abstract. Cambridge lists what candidates may be asked to do: perform calculations, complete a cash book, complete an incomplete statement of accounts, prepare accounts from information given in the question, or prepare suspense accounts and journal entries. Calculators may be used in both papers, which tells you the arithmetic is not the point; the method and the presentation are. Two things families should know before committing. First, Cambridge is unusually explicit that this qualification cannot be combined with certain others: candidates can take it alongside other Cambridge International syllabuses, but the exceptions include Cambridge IGCSE Accounting and Cambridge IGCSE (9-1) Accounting, because O Level and IGCSE sit at the same level. Second, Cambridge has told centres that from 2028 this subject is available in zone 4 only. The detail is in our availability answer below. We work from real past papers, and you can see how our O Level tutoring works.

Cambridge
Cambridge O Level Accounting 7707 is untiered. All candidates take two papers and are eligible for grades A* to E, with A* the highest and E the lowest. Paper 1 is Multiple Choice and Paper 2 is Structured Written Paper. Paper 1 is a compulsory multiple-choice paper of 1 hour 30 minutes and 40 marks, carrying 30% of the qualification, with 40 questions based on all the subject content; some questions require candidates to perform calculations. Paper 2 is a compulsory structured written paper of 1 hour 45 minutes and 100 marks, carrying 70%, consisting of five questions worth 20 marks each, all based on stimulus material followed by a variety of tasks. Candidates may be required to perform calculations, complete a cash book, complete an incomplete statement of accounts, prepare accounts from information given in the question, or prepare suspense accounts and journal entries. Calculators may be used in both papers. Both are externally assessed and there is no coursework. Paper 1 assesses knowledge and understanding and analysis; Paper 2 also assesses evaluation. The syllabus sets about 130 guided learning hours, and private candidates can enter. Exams are available in the June and November series. On availability, the syllabus states that Cambridge O Levels are available to centres in administrative zones 3, 4 and 5, but a Cambridge centre notice dated July 2026 states that from 2028 this syllabus is available in zone 4 only, and that centres in zones 3 and 5 may wish to consider Cambridge IGCSE Accounting 0452 instead. Note that Cambridge lists IGCSE Accounting 0452 as one of the qualifications this syllabus cannot be taken alongside, so for those families it is a replacement rather than an addition.
How Centaurus Helps O Level Accounting Students Excel
The 70% Paper Treated As 70%
Paper 2 carries most of the grade, so it leads the plan. Paper 1 practice keeps ticking over underneath it.
Five Questions, Twenty Marks Each
Nothing can be dropped. We make sure no question type is the one nobody has practised.
Authentic Tasks Rehearsed
Cash books, incomplete statements of accounts, suspense accounts and journal entries are practised as tasks, not described as theory.
Presentation Marked Properly
Calculators are allowed and the arithmetic rarely decides the grade. Layout, labels and presentation do, so we mark them.
Zone Change Advised Early
From 2028 this subject is zone 4 only. We flag it before a family commits two years to it.
24/7 Progress Reporting
Families get access to the Centaurus Academy LMS, with attendance, progress and lesson notes available to parents, students and teachers at any time.
