About IGCSE Maths
IGCSE Maths is sat by students around the world, usually at the end of Year 11, and it covers number, algebra, geometry, and statistics. Every board offers two tiers, and the tier your child sits decides which grades they can be awarded.
This is the subject where the board matters most. Unlike GCSE in the UK, the three IGCSE boards agree on very little. Cambridge 0580 grades A* to G, while Edexcel 4MA1 and OxfordAQA 9260 both award grades 1 to 9. Cambridge sets a non-calculator paper at each tier, and the other two allow a calculator in every paper. Cambridge calls its tiers Core and Extended, Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher, and OxfordAQA calls them Core and Extension. Even the paper lengths differ.
So we start by confirming the board and the tier, then work through real past papers from that board and drill the technique that turns working into marks. You can also see how our IGCSE tutoring works.

IGCSE Maths Exam Boards We Cover
IGCSE Maths is the subject where the board matters most. Cambridge, Edexcel and OxfordAQA set different papers, different paper lengths and two different grade scales. Cambridge 0580 grades A* to G, while Edexcel 4MA1 and OxfordAQA 9260 both award grades 1 to 9.
Cambridge
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is tiered, and all candidates take two components. Candidates who study the Core content sit Paper 1 and Paper 3, and can be awarded grades C to G. Candidates who study the Extended content sit Paper 2 and Paper 4, and can be awarded grades A* to E. Grades overall run A* to G. Paper 1 is a 1 hour 30 minute non-calculator paper worth 80 marks, and Paper 3 is a 1 hour 30 minute calculator paper worth 80 marks, each worth 50% of the qualification. At Extended, Paper 2 is a 2 hour non-calculator paper and Paper 4 is a 2 hour calculator paper, each worth 100 marks and 50%. A scientific calculator is required for the calculator papers and is not allowed on the non-calculator papers.
Edexcel
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in Mathematics (Specification A) 4MA1 is a linear qualification with two papers, taken at Foundation or Higher tier. Foundation candidates sit papers 1F and 2F, and Higher candidates sit 1H and 2H. Every paper is a 2 hour examination worth 100 marks and 50% of the qualification, and a calculator may be used in all of them. Foundation tier is targeted at grades 5 to 1 and Higher tier at grades 9 to 4, on the nine-grade scale. Papers are available in January and June. The content is grouped as number, algebra, geometry and statistics.
OxfordAQA
OxfordAQA International GCSE Mathematics 9260 awards grades 1 to 9 and has two tiers: Core, covering grades 1 to 5, and Extension, covering grades 4 to 9. Students take two question papers at the same tier in the same series. Core students sit Paper 1C and Paper 2C, each a 1 hour 30 minute written exam worth 80 marks and 50% of the qualification. Extension students sit Paper 1E and Paper 2E, each a 2 hour written exam worth 100 marks and 50%. A scientific calculator is allowed in all four papers, and the specification sets 120 guided learning hours.
How Centaurus Helps IGCSE Maths Students Excel
Board and Tier Matching
Cambridge, Edexcel and OxfordAQA set different papers at different lengths. Your child's tutor teaches the exact papers and tier they sit.
Calculator and Non-Calculator Skills
Cambridge sets a non-calculator paper at each tier, while Edexcel and OxfordAQA allow a calculator throughout. We practise the right modes for your board.
Grade-Scale Clarity
Cambridge grades A* to G and the other two award grades 1 to 9. Targets are set against your board's scale, not a generic one.
