About IGCSE Global Perspectives
IGCSE Global Perspectives is unlike any other IGCSE. It is built on skills rather than a body of content: research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, communication and collaboration. Students pick topics from a broad list and follow their own lines of enquiry into issues that divide opinion.
The most important thing to understand is how little of this grade is an exam. Only one of the three components is a written paper, and it is worth 35%. Component 1 is a 1 hour 25 minute exam of four compulsory questions, based on sources supplied with the paper.
The other 65% is coursework, and it comes in two very different parts. Component 2 is an Individual Report worth 30%, where the student chooses a global issue, devises their own research question and writes a structured essay of 1500–2000 words. Component 3 is a Team Project worth 35%, where students work in teams of two to five members on a local issue and then reflect on it individually. We work from real past papers. That team element is why this page matters. Collaboration is formally assessed here, and it is the only IGCSE on our site that does so.
Who IGCSE Global Perspectives Is For
This course suits students who can discuss big issues but have never had to turn that into a formal research report or a collaborative project.
- Students who are strong at exams but have never written a 2000 word research report
- Candidates who need help choosing a global issue and shaping it into a workable research question
- Students whose team project is drifting and who need structure, deadlines and a clear plan
- Learners who can research well but struggle to evaluate sources and weigh up different perspectives
- Students aiming for the top grades who need to write reflectively rather than just descriptively

IGCSE Global Perspectives Exam Board We Cover
Cambridge 0457 is the qualification we teach for this subject. It is not tiered, and every candidate sits the same three components for grades A* to G. Only the first is an exam, worth 35%. The other 65% is an Individual Report worth 30% and a Team Project worth 35%, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
Cambridge
Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives 0457 is not tiered, and all candidates take three components, for grades A* to G. Component 1 is the Written Exam: a written paper of 1 hour 25 minutes carrying 70 marks and 35% of the qualification. It is externally assessed and consists of four compulsory questions, based on a range of sources provided with the question paper, on a topic from the topic list. Component 2 is the Individual Report: 60 marks and 30% of the qualification, internally set and externally marked. Candidates research a significant global issue of their choice from the topic list, research a range of different perspectives on it — local and/or national, and global — and reflect on their own personal perspective. They devise their own title and write a report of 1500–2000 words, presented as a structured essay in continuous text. This word count does not include the bibliography or reference list. Component 3 is the Team Project: 70 marks and 35% of the qualification, internally assessed and externally moderated. Candidates work in teams of two to five members to choose from the topic list, identify a local issue and develop a collaborative project. The Team Project has two elements. The Team Element is worth 25 marks: each team produces one Explanation of Research and Planning, which must be 300–400 words, and one Evidence of Action. The Personal Element is worth 45 marks: each candidate writes a Reflective Paper of 750–1000 words on their research, their contribution to the Team Element and their personal learning. In the Team Project, candidates are assessed on the skills of research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, communication and collaboration. The topic list contains 22 topics, is used for all three components, and is intentionally broad — any topic can be considered with a focus on sustainability.
How Centaurus Helps
Turning an interest into a research question
The Individual Report begins with a topic from the list and a global issue that divides opinion. We help students narrow that into a question they can actually answer in 2000 words.
Structured essay coaching
The report must be a structured essay in continuous text, with causes, consequences, different courses of action and a justified recommendation. We build that skeleton with the student.
Team project organisation
Teams of two to five members need planning, roles and deadlines. We help students keep the Explanation of Research and Planning on track and within 300–400 words.
Reflective writing
The Reflective Paper is 45 of the 70 marks in the Team Project, and it is the part students find hardest. We teach students to reflect on their own learning, not just describe what happened.
Source evaluation
Both the exam and the report reward students who judge whether a source is reliable and credible. We practise this until it becomes automatic.
Referencing done properly
Citation is expected in the report. We make sure students credit other people's ideas clearly and consistently.
