About AS Level Accounting
AS Level Accounting is the first year of A Level Accounting, usually taken in Year 12. Students sit the exams at the end of that year. It covers how financial records are built and checked, how statements are prepared, and how costs and budgets are used to make decisions. It works two ways: as a qualification in its own right, or as the first half of a full A Level.
Accounting marks are unforgiving in a specific way. A correct figure in the wrong box still loses marks, and an answer with no workings cannot earn part marks when the final number slips. Students who understand the theory but rush the layout, or skip the working, leave marks behind on every paper.
We teach the AS as its own qualification, not a warm-up for the second year. Lessons follow the specification your child's school uses, we work from real past papers from their board, and we mark answers the way an examiner would, layout included. Parents can follow progress in the Centaurus Academy LMS all year.

AS Level Accounting Exam Boards We Cover
Accounting AS Levels come in three shapes here, because AQA does not offer an AS in this subject at all. Edexcel International examines the whole AS in a single three-hour paper, Cambridge splits it into a multiple choice paper and a written paper, and OxfordAQA runs two papers of identical shape. None of the three sets coursework, so every mark comes from the exams.
Cambridge
Two compulsory papers make up the AS, and they are not weighted equally. Paper 1 is Multiple Choice, 1 hour and 30 marks, drawn from the first two sections of the content, and it is worth just 28% of the AS. Paper 2 is Fundamentals of Accounting, 1 hour 45 minutes and 90 marks, with four structured questions worth the remaining 72%. Questions 1 to 3 cover financial accounting, with Question 1 carrying 30 marks, and Question 4 covers cost and management accounting, also 30 marks. Candidates take both papers in the same exam series. Exams run in June and November, and in March for schools in India.
OxfordAQA
Two papers, each a 2-hour written exam worth 80 marks and 50% of the AS. Paper 1 is Introduction to Financial Accounting and Paper 2 is Financial and Management Accounting, and both follow exactly the same three-section layout. Section A opens with 10 multiple choice questions worth 10 marks, then a set of short answer questions worth 13 marks, making 23 in total. Section B has three structured questions worth 15 marks each, for 45 marks. Section C is one extended writing question worth 12 marks. Both papers are worth 20% of the full International A Level. Exams run in May/June and January.
Edexcel
The whole AS is a single exam, which no other board on this page does. Unit 1 is The Accounting System and Costing, a 3-hour written paper worth 200 marks and 100% of the AS. Candidates sit it in the January, June or October series, so there are three chances a year, more than any other board here. That one paper also counts for half of the International A Level, where it is joined by Unit 2 on corporate and management accounting. Because everything rests on one sitting, timing and accuracy matter more than anywhere else.
