About A Level Psychology
A Level Psychology is the qualification students sit in their final year of school. It suits anyone heading for psychology, neuroscience, criminology, education or health degrees. It runs over two years: Year 12 first, then Year 13, when the exams happen. Many schools call that second year A2, and others call it Grade 12. You can see how A Level is structured across both years.
The step up from GCSE is about how much you have to remember and how well you use it. Students learn named studies in detail, then apply them to unseen scenarios. Answers need the right study, the right finding, and a judgement about how much it proves. Research methods run through every paper, and they are where many students lose marks.

A Level Psychology Exam Boards We Cover
Psychology A Levels come in two families. AQA and Edexcel are UK boards, where the exams come at the end of the two years. Cambridge International and OxfordAQA follow their own international syllabuses, with exams in more series. All four build the subject around named studies and research methods, so we teach the studies your child's specification actually lists.
Edexcel
Three papers. Paper 1 covers social, cognitive, biological and learning psychology, then issues and debates, in 2 hours 15 minutes. Paper 2 adds clinical psychology and one choice from criminological, child or health psychology. Paper 3 tests research methods and classic studies in 2 hours. Formulae and statistical tables are given in every paper, and calculators are allowed.
AQA
Three papers, each two hours and 96 marks, worth a third each. Paper 1 covers introductory topics, Paper 2 covers psychology in context, and Paper 3 adds issues and options. Every paper is split into sections of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing. There is no coursework.
Cambridge
Four papers of 60 marks. Papers 1 and 2 make up the AS: approaches, issues and debates, then research methods. Papers 3 and 4 complete the A Level, and students answer on two specialist options chosen from clinical, consumer, health or organisational psychology. Exams run in June and November.
OxfordAQA
Four units, each 1 hour 30 minutes and 90 marks. The International AS is worth 40% of the grade and the A2 the other 60%. Units 1 and 2 cover memory, social psychology, psychopathology, biopsychology and cognitive development. Units 3 and 4 add psychology of sleep, schizophrenia, and a synoptic unit on approaches and applied psychology.
