About A Level Physics
A Level Physics is the qualification students sit in their final year of school, and the one that opens engineering, physics, and many other science and technology degrees. It runs over two years: Year 12 first, then Year 13, when the exams happen. Many schools call that second year A2, and others call it Grade 12. You can see how A Level is structured across both years.
The step up from GCSE is real. The course moves into fields, nuclear physics and thermal physics, and the maths gets harder. Answers need units and clear working, and explanations have to use the right physical terms. A correct idea can still lose marks if the working is unclear or a unit is missing. Your child's tutor shows them how to set out their reasoning the way examiners want.

A Level Physics Exam Boards We Cover
Physics A Levels come in two families. AQA and Edexcel are UK boards, where the content is set by the government and is identical between them — only the paper split changes. Cambridge International, OxfordAQA and Edexcel International follow their own international syllabuses. We teach both families, always to your child's exact specification.
Edexcel
Two routes sit under this board. UK students sit three papers at the end of the two years, and the third carries the most marks. International A Level students sit six units instead, including two dedicated practical skills units.
AQA
Three papers, each two hours, with short answers and multiple choice. Paper 3 is worth 32% and includes 35 marks on an optional topic your child chooses from five.
Cambridge
Five papers across the two years, including a two-hour practical test and a paper on planning, analysis and evaluation. Data and formulae sheets are printed in the papers.
OxfordAQA
Two stages. The International AS covers mechanics, materials, atoms, electricity, waves and particles, and is worth 40% of the final grade. The International A2 adds fields and energy for the other 60%. Ten required practicals are assessed in the written papers.
