About Edexcel GCSE Business
Edexcel GCSE Business is code 1BS0, with a qualification number of 603/0121/1, written for first teaching from September 2017 and first certification in 2019. It has two externally examined papers and students must complete all assessment in May/June in any single year. There is no November series.
Paper 1 is Theme 1, Investigating small business, coded 1BS0/01, and Paper 2 is Theme 2, Building a business, coded 1BS0/02. They are identical in size and weight: each is a written examination of 1 hour and 45 minutes, each is out of 90 marks, and each is worth 50% of the qualification. That symmetry is worth noticing, because it means neither paper can be treated as the minor one.
Both papers are divided the same way. Section A carries 35 marks, Section B carries 30 and Section C carries 25, and students must answer all questions in all three sections. There is no choice of question anywhere in the qualification, so a student cannot plan to avoid a topic they dislike.
The two themes are not sealed off from one another. Theme 1 covers enterprise and entrepreneurship, spotting a business opportunity, putting a business idea into practice, making the business effective, and understanding external influences on business. Theme 2 covers growing the business, making marketing decisions, making operational decisions, making financial decisions, and making human resource decisions. But Pearson states that Paper 1 questions may draw on underpinning knowledge and understanding developed through Theme 2, and that Paper 2 questions may draw on Theme 1. A student who revises one theme in isolation is missing material the paper is allowed to ask for.
The objectives are almost evenly split, and the two papers mirror each other within them. AO1 is 35%, AO2 is 35% and AO3 is 30%. On Paper 1 that works out as 17.2 for AO1, 17.8 for AO2 and 15 for AO3; on Paper 2 it is 17.8 for AO1, 17.2 for AO2 and 15 for AO3. So Paper 2 is very slightly the more knowledge-weighted of the two and Paper 1 very slightly the more application-weighted, and Pearson notes that the totals have been rounded to one decimal point.
Two rules sit in the assessment information. Calculators may be used, and the paper will include questions that target mathematics at a minimum of Key Stage 3 level. So the numerical work in the papers is real but bounded, and the finance topics are examined with a calculator in hand rather than by mental arithmetic.

Edexcel GCSE Business: The Board We Cover
Edexcel is the board this page covers. Every fact here comes from Pearson's own 1BS0 specification, Issue 2.
Edexcel
Edexcel's GCSE Business is code 1BS0, two papers of 1 hour and 45 minutes and 90 marks at 50% each. Both split into sections of 35, 30 and 25 marks, and students must answer every question.
How Centaurus Helps Edexcel GCSE Business Students Excel
Both Themes Taught Together
Pearson states that Paper 1 may draw on Theme 2 knowledge and Paper 2 on Theme 1, so the two are taught as one subject rather than two.
No Question Avoided
Students must answer all questions across all three sections of both papers, so every topic is prepared rather than some being gambled on.
Section C Rehearsed at 25 Marks
The extended writing section is the smallest of the three but the one where structure decides the mark, so it is practised to length and to time.
The Current Paper Length
Issue 2 changed the papers from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes, so mocks are set to the current timing rather than an older one.
Finance With a Calculator
Calculators may be used and the papers target maths at a minimum of Key Stage 3 level, so calculation practice matches the real conditions.
